    • MOTOR CAR HITS AND KILLS WOMAN AT LIBRARY CORNER

Mrs. Edward Fehrenbach struck down Last Evening When Crossing Street By Automobile of Mervin Seymour And Fatally Injured. Dies in Hospital Early Today Inquest Opened This Afternoon Another tragedy has been added to the long list of motor car accidents on the streets of the city. As a result of injuries received when knocked down by a motor car on Weber Street at about 7: 45 o'clock last evening, Mrs. Edward Fehrenbach, 34 Pearl Place, passed away at the local hospital at about 3: 30 o'clock this morning. The scene of the accident was near the corner of North Queen and Weber streets. The unfortunate driver of the motor car which struck the lady was Mervin Seymour, car-checker of the Grand Trunk railway. The husband of the deceased lady when seen by the Record this morning stated that he and Mrs. Fehrenbach had left the home to attend the concert in St. Mary's church and were going along East Weber street. They crossed North Queen street to the sidewalk near the Presbyterian church and then proceeded in a straight line across Weber street. The wife was a trifle to his rear and to his right. When about two feet from the curb on the south side of Weber street something grazed past him. It was the fender of a car which had turned the corner into west Weber after coming down North Queen street, the driver having apparently swung to the side at his rear.Bef ore he had time to realize what had happened the car ran into a post on which is the fire alarm box on the north side of Weber street and came to a stop. He found that Mrs. Fehrenbach had been struck and carried to the curb. He rushed to her and assisted her to her feet. She was not unconscious altho she did not know what had happened. It was evident that she had been injured. Spectators, the occupant of the motor car and others came to the rescue and Mrs. Fehrenbach was removed to the office of Dr. Hagmeier on Frederick street. She was able to get into the car. After examination of her injuries, the extent of which were not yet apparent, she was removed to her home there being no indication that the injuries would take a serious turn and prove fatal. At about 9: 30 o'clock she became ill and at 9: 45 o'clock unconscious. In about an hour she was removed to the hospital but she never rallied and passed away at 3: 30 o'clock this morning.

The cause of death was a fracture of the skull. An inquest into the accident has been decided on by Coroner J.F. Kalbfleisch. The jury met at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the city hall where they proceeded to view the remains at the undertaking parlours. Adjournment of the inquest was then made for a week.In the motor car with Mr. Seymour were two little girls who as the result of the collision with the post were shaken up but not injured. The fender of the roadster was badly bent. Regarding the accident the Record also endeavoured to interview Mr. Seymour who altho broken down by the unfortunate occurrence was at his duties at the Grand Trunk yards today but was not able to locate him. Late last evening he called at the home of the deceased to learn more about her injuries. From what has been gathered it is understood that there were one or two eyewitnesses of the accident who of course will tell their version of the occurrence. There is some difference of opinion. One is that the driver took a wide swerve to avoid running into a man and another that he made a wide turn which he thought would be safe. Further there is some discrepancy in the views as to where the deceased lady and the husband were when the accident occurred, namely as to whether they were near the curb on the south side of Weber street or whether they were nearer the centre of Weber street.T he deceased lady had a host of friends and wide acquaintances. The tragedy has cast a gloom over the community and over the wider circle of friends. Mrs. Fehrenbach was a native of this city, having been born here about 53 years ago. Before her marriage she was Emma Bauer. Surviving her are the husband and eight children, who are Cornelius of Vancouver, Harold of Cleveland, Olivia of London, graduate nurse, Carl, Joseph, Eugene, Edward and Anna at home. There are also three sisters and two brothers as follows, Mrs. John Wintermeyer, city, Mrs. Jacob Ball of Waterloo, Mrs. Joseph Bowman of Walkerton, Aloyes and Charles Bauer of Waterloo. She was a member of St. Mary's church. The funeral will probably take place on Monday. One younger sister Mrs. Edward Winterhalt died exactly three years ago yesterday. The jury for the inquest consisted of the following citizens: Oscar Boehmer, Ed. Petch, E.H. Lindner, George Potter, S.R. Ernst, David Gross, M. Zinkann, J.R. Yost and George Bucher.
