WIECK Resident of Chesley for 31 Years Passed Away Last Week (Special to The Sun-Times) CHESLEY, Apr. 21-With the passing of Fredk. Wieck, one of Canada's early settlers has been removed. For thirty-one years the family lived in Chesley. Mrs. Wieck caught cold about ten days ago, and the weakness to old age, aggravated the disease, on with the Wednesday, result that April she 15th, passed at the ripe age of eighty-eight years. The funeral service was conducted at the house at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday last, by the Rev. H. A. Kellerman, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Church, and interment afterwards made in Chesley cemetery, a large number of friends and sympathizers present. As the cortege passed church on its way down the hill the large bell was solemnly tolled at half-minute intervals, Christina Schmidt was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, in 1837, and came to Canada with her father in 1857, the family settling in Waterloo County. In 1858 she married Fredk. Wieck, and became the mother of fourteen children, viz: nine sons and five daughters. Two of the sons died some years ago, but the husband land 12 children still survive. In 1865 the family moved to Saugeen Twp., near Port Elgin, and in 1894 came to Chesley where they have since resided. There are twenty-five grand children and great grandchildren. The casket was borne to the grave by five sons: Frederick, John, William, Amos and Jacob; also one son-in-law, John West. One great grandchild, Betty Jane Rouse, was also present at the funeral.
