    • Samuel's early life was spent on the old homestead farm at the twenty up to about the age of twenty years. During the winter months he attended the common school "in dem Schulhaus an der Krick". In January 1854 he commenced teaching school, taught three months and was paid $11.00 per month and board. The following year he also taught three months and then decided to make teaching his lifes work, and at once took a course in the Normal School and followed the profession of teaching until 1868. In the fifteenth year of his age he was converted and united with the Ev. Assoc.. In 1857 he commenced to exercise his talents for the Lord in the Sabbath school work and weekly tract distribution in Port Elgin, where he was teaching. This he followed up for years both summer and winter. He was also appointed class-leader at the first organization of the Assoc. Church at that place in 1859. During these years he was impressed, and knew that he should go forth as a herald of the cross of Christ, but his unfitness seamed so great that he dared not venture to let even his dearest friends know of his convictions. Finally through the searching inquiry of a father in Israel, he yielded his assets and was given work as a local preacher in 1867. At the next annual Conference held in Blenheim Township Under the Presidency of Bishop Joseph Long, he was licensed as a probationer and sent as a junior preacher to Upper Circuit to assist Rev. Theodore hand. In 1869 he was sent to Blenheim Circuit alone; Hanburg Circuit, 1871-72; Lincoln and Gainsboro Mission 1873-76 and Campden Station one year; Hespeler Mission, 1877--; Credition Station, 1880--; Hespler Mission, 1883-; In 1884 he was elected the presiding Elder and sent to the Ottawa District, and also as pastor of the Golden Lake Mission. In 1887 he was stationed on the North District and in 1889 on the West District. He was ordained a Deacon in 1870 at Credition and Elder in 1872 at Lingelbach's church. Preaching Christ and pointing sinners to the Lamb of God has been and still was the greatest joy of his life, and the Lord had reicly crowned his feeble endeavors to glorify his name, and given him many seals to his ministry on every pastoral charge he had served. In September 1858 he was married to Martha Jane, daughter of Benjamin and Lavina brown of Gainsboro, Ontario, Canada. She died without issue, May 21, 1871. For second wife he married Mary Anna, Widow of Conrad Seibert and daughter of William and Anna (Schweitzer) Lingelbach, June 4, 1872.

  • Notes
    • REV. SAMUEL NASH MOYER Tavistock. A good meeting. Officers say that for several years they have not had so large an attendance and such a lively interest manifested in the Society s work. The Rev. Mr. Pike of Shakespeare aided your agent nobly. He gave an excellent address. The agent spoke mostly in the German language. Collection, $5.00.
