  Cressman, David On Saturday, March 7, 2015 at his residence at Nithview Community, New Hamburg, David quietly and gently left us and this world to be reunited with his beloved wife Alice. In his 99th year, he was the son of the late Josiah and Lucinda (Bauman). Beloved husband of the late Alice (Shantz) Cressman who predeceased him June 30, 2011. Loving father of six: Judy Smallwood, Janet Jamison & Bill of Stratford, Rick Cressman of New Hamburg, Laurie McKay and Doug of Tavistock, Murray Cressman & Sherry, Sharon Boutell & Colin of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by a number of nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by a son Douglas in infancy, son-in-law Adrian Smallwood, brothers Addison Cressman & Winnie, twin Elmer Cressman & Barbara and sister Lydian Cressman. Raised in an Old Order Mennonite home on a farm at the edge of Elmira, his love of animals and 'the land' naturally fostered his vocation in farming. After marrying in 1951 he owned a dairy farm and milked Jerseys at RR#2 New Hamburg. In 1967 the family moved to New Hamburg where he owned and operated Cressman Meat Market and attended the Kitchener Farmers' Market developing a loyal clientele. David served on the New Hamburg Town Council for several years. His simple Christian faith was shared with his family and was a blessing to many. His spiritual journey continued throughout his life. He was a member of Wilmot Centre Missionary Church where he served as treasurer, trustee and elder. Camping and travelling across Canada (in a Ford, of course) were his greatest pleasures. In later life he loved being in the midst of family gatherings. His loss will be keenly felt by the maple syrup producers in Elmira. 'Grumpy Bear' wishes to send a smile and thank his caregivers at Nithview because,"They treat me good, here." His was a long life, well lived! Family and friends will be received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Wednesday March 11, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday March 12, at 3:00 p.m. at Wilmot Centre Missionary Church where Pastor Wayne Domm will officiate. Interment in Wilmot Centre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Wilmot Centre Missionary Church, or Nithview Community.
