Notes |
- JURY, Hilda Catherine (Hemmerich) Passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at North York General Hospital, in her 94th year, after a brief illness. "As a person thinketh in her heart, so is she" adapted from Proverb xxiii, 7. Hilda was married to her beloved husband Arthur Jury (deceased) for over 63 years. They were childhood sweethearts in Elmira. She loved her family; her son James, her daughter-in-law, of over 40 years, Jacqueline (Merrick), her sister Beatrice Hall married to Bill Hall, her sister Rita Snyder (deceased) and Rita's husband Joseph Snyder (deceased), her many nieces and nephews and their children, and her many close friends and neighbours. They have all returned her love and have frequently visited with her and her beloved Art when they were together, and, after he passed away, while she was living independently in Richmond Hill. She valued her independence, and only in the last few weeks gave up her driver's licence. Hilda loved to play bridge with the "girls", but became saddened when their numbers decreased as the years went by. She was loyal and generous to her friends, and would always help whenever help was needed. Hilda loved to laugh, called from an early age by her mother as the "giggle-daughter". Her personality was one to see humour and joy in her daily life. Hilda, Art, Jackie and Jim had many opportunities to travel, spending precious time together. When Art died, Hilda, Jackie and Jim enjoyed more travels together, including cruises and trips to resorts in the U.S. and Canada. The kind, compassionate and professional care of the doctors, nurses and caregivers at North York General Hospital is greatly appreciated by Hilda's family. In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A visitation will be held at the Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira, on Friday, February 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Conestogo (near Waterloo) on Saturday, February 20, at 11 a.m. with refreshments in the church hall after the ceremony.
