  • Notes
    • AMOS, Marjorie Passed away peacefully on January 22, 2011, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital in her 96th year. Marjorie was the dearly beloved wife of the late Conley Amos (2003), proud loving mom of Pat and Garry Janes, Barbara and Earl Rehkopf, Wendy and Gerry Snyder and Gary and Cheryl Amos; devoted, supportive Grandmother of Mark (Andrina and Tesla), Shelley (Ron), Tim (Lesley), Greg, Renee (Jeff) and Brad (Jennifer); and dearest Great-grandma of Leah, Quinn, Gracie, Tyson and Charlotte. She was predeceased by her parents, Milton and Florence Weber and brother Norman. Marjorie will be remembered by sister-in-law Jackie Amos, nephews, and many cousins. Marjorie was born and raised in Woolwich Township and after her graduation from Stratford Normal School in 1934 she taught elementary school in Waterloo County for 33 years winning the Wiegand Memorial Foundation Award in 1966 for Excellence in Teaching in the Woolwich Township School Area. She retired in 1975. Then, with Conley, she enjoyed travelling and many years of sun-filled winters at their home in Florida where friends and family were always warmly welcomed. Marjorie was a life-long member of the Women's lnstitute, a 4H Club Leader, involved in her church UCW groups and a member of the board of the Waterloo County Library from its start in 1956 to the eventual formation of the library located in Bloomingdale. As well as teaching the 3 R's, Marjorie encouraged her family and students to enjoy and participate in drama, music and visual arts experiences. She was an enthusiastic supporter and longtime patron of Elmira Theatre Company. Her interest in sports led to bowling, golfing, curling, and square dancing teams and being a "Lady Lion" rounded out her active life. Marjorie's family wishes to thank all her friends from her home communities of Winterbourne, Conestogo, Waterloo, and Pinehaven Retirement Home for their love and support through the years. Also, thanks to the caring staffs of 5A Grand River Hospital and Union Terrace 3rd floor at Freeport. A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at Parkminster United Church, 275 Erb Street East, Waterloo, at 12 noon on Saturday, February 5th, followed by a reception and fellowship in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. Condolences for the family and, in lieu of flowers, donations to Grand River Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Parkminster United Church Memorial Fund may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
