    • DEATH OF JOSEPH HERGOTT

Joseph Hergott Sr. was born in Canada, June 20, 1849, and died November 9, 1921, at his home 4 miles north of Gilead.

He was married to Catherine Dietrich, June 5, 1877. They made their home on a farm near St. Agatha Can. where they resided for nearly eighteen months and from there they came to Nebraska making their home on a farm four miles north of Gilead for thirty-six years.

Mr. and Mrs. Hergott retired, moving to Gilend in 1915, where Mrs. Hergott still resides.

Joseph Hergott, sr. was a well known and well liked man and has made many friends in his time.

He took sick eight months before his death and suffered much pain from cancer of the stomach and liver but all through his sickness he held no complaint and was very little care to his wife and family. He was indeed patient and struggled to keep up all courage and hide his suffering. but in spite of all, dropsy set in, hastening his death.

Grandpa Hergott's death took place on the twenty-first birthday of his oldest grandson and on the sixty-ninth birthday of his wife.

Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph's church at Gilead on November and the body was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Alexandria, Neb.

Mr. Hergott leaves to mourn his death, his wife and six sons, Albert, Joseph, Sam, Mike, Louis and August Hergott and his twenty-five grand- children.
