  SAD DEATH OF GEO. BALTZER Well-known Accountant of Economical Fire Ins Co. Passed Away Friday. It was a shock to the entire community Friday when the sad news spread like wildfire announcing the death of Mr. George Baltzer, the well-known accountant of the Economical Fire Insurance Co., which took place at 4 o'clock after a brief but severe illness. The deceased was a sufferer from rheumatic trouble for some years but has been comparatively free from the ailment for some time. About, four weeks ago the extraction of a tooth caused a swelling of the jaws which developed into erysipelas and on Thursday congestion of the lungs set in and all hope for his recovery was abandoned. The late George Baltzer was a son of the late Jacob Baltzer and was born in Hespeler about 39 years ago. After receiving a public school education and engaging in clerking for a few years he entered the Economical Insurance Co. in 1891 and practically grew up with the steady progress of the Company and by close application, faithful service and deep interest in its welfare he became the efficient accountant and recently has also been performing the duties of Inspector. In recognition of his long and capable services the Board Directors on Thursday evening decided to recommend at the annual meeting to-day his appointment Secretary of the Company to succeed Mr. W. H. Schmalz, who will of be Managing Director. The deceased was Town Auditor for a number of years and was actively identified with the Canadian Order of Foresters, the I.O.O.F., the A.F. & A. M., and other societies. Mr. Baltzer took a keen interest in municipal affairs and was a candidate for the Council in 1909, but was defeated by a very small margin. The deceased is survived by his bereaved widow, his mother, a brother, Harry, of Brantford, a sister, Mrs. T. W. Gibson, of Winnipeg, who has been living in Berlin for about a year. They will have the heartfelt sympathy of a wide circle of friends. The funeral will take place on Monday from the residence, corner Queen and Ahrens streets, to Mount Hope cemetery.
