_____________
R. M. JAFFRAY.
'The American Wheelman of Buffalo, in its last issue, contains an illustrated sketch of an old Berlin boy. We republish it with pleasure, as we with our towns-people, are always glad to hear of the success of our boys at home and abroad.
The paper in question says: "A few weeks ago we published a cut in this paper of Samuel A. Miles, editor of the Referee. We now take great pleasure in presenting to our readers Robert M. Jaffray, the business manager of the Referee, but on account of his extreme modesty we are unable to give much of his history. Jaffray was born at Berlin Ont., thirty five years ago, his father being a cousin of Sir John Jaffray, proprietor of the Birmingham (Eng.) Post, and founder of a big hospital in that city. Jaffray's newspaper career commenced some time back when, together with his brother, he published the Brantford (Ont.) Daily Telegram. After running it two or three years the brothers removed to Minneapolis, Minn., where they established the Canadian American. This was afterwards removed to Chicago, in 1888. The following year R. M. Jaffray established the Lawn Tennis Review, and shortly afterward proposed an amalgamation with the Referee, which was then being run by Miles. Jaffray has four times made trips to England in the interests of the Referee, and has beyond doubt, done more business there than all the other representatives of the American cycling papers combined, He is a keen business man, well liked with the trade, and excellent company. He owns a beautiful residence in North Chicago, and enjoys his home and family thoroughly. As a vocalist he has few equals. Mr. Jaffray's 'acquaintance is well worth cultivating.
