According to the 1901-1903 Vernon's City of Berlin and Waterloo directory, the C.W. Hagen shoe store was located on the north side of King Street East, Berlin, Ontario, just past Scott Street. The directory does not list a street number for the store, but the proceeding store listed has a street number of 96.
According to the 1907 Vernon's City of Berlin, Waterloo, and Bridgeport directory, the C.W. Hagen shoe store became Sippel & Hagen and moved to 11 King Street East, Berlin, Ontario. |

- C. W. Hagen, 81, Insurance Man, Passes
Well known in insurance, sports and music circles, Charles W. Hagen, 81, of 88 Church St. died at his home today.
Mr. Hagen operated a general insurance agency which he sold last year. Prior to this he was associated with the Prudential Life Insurance Company and the Canada Life Insurance Company.
FOOTBALL ENTHUSIAST
A member of the Life Under writers, he was also active in asociation foothall and for many years led a vocal quartet which entertained throughout the district.
Born in Germany, he was a son of the late John Hagen and Louisa Arndt. He came to Canada at the age of two years, went to Carstairs, Alta, in 1907 and homesteaded in Alsask, Alta, for five years.
Mr. Hagen returned to Kitchener in 1916 and opened a shoe store which he operated for several years before entering the insurance business. He attended the Church of the Good Shepherd.
FUNERAL MONDAY
Surviving are his widow, the former Caroline Edith Rehmann, whom he married Aug. 10. 1907 in Kitchener, three daughters Mrs. R. G. (Onnerene) Hemmerich of Kitchener, Mrs. Russell. (Madeline) Hachborn of London.. Ont, and Irmengarde at home, one brother. Henry of Kitchener.. and two grandchildren. One son, Carl, predeceased him Feb 8
A public funeral will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd Monday at 2:30 pm. with Res. David Johnson officiating Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The body is resting at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home.
