    • Gun Discharged As Boy Examined It Causing His Death - Fifteen Year Old Joseph Lang Victim In Kitchener Home; Lived But Three Minutes

Boys Discussing Hunting - Joseph Lang, aged 15, of Esra Ave., Waterloo, was fatally shot last night about 8 o'clock at the home of W.C. Wiegandt, 60 Bingeman Street, when a rifle which he was examining suddenly discharged, the bullet taking a course from the left side just above his collar bone coming out on the opposite side. The lad lived only two or three minutes. Dr. McGregor was summoned but the boy was dead when he arrived. Coroner Kalbfleisch was also called. According to the story told the police young Lange was visiting at the Wiegandt home last evening. He was in the cellar with young Wiegandt aged 14 and apparently the two were discussing a hunting trip with which young Wiegandt had with his father Saturday afternoon. It is believed Lang asked to see the gun and the Wiegandt boy pointed to where the rifle was standing in a corner of the furnace cellar covered over by paper. The Lang boy went to the rifle and taking hold of it started to examine the gun when it exploded, the 22 caliber bullet with which it was loaded passing thru his neck and severing important blood vessels along the route it traveled. Young Lang dropped the gun and walked about eight feet to the cellar steps where he sat down and a moment later collapsed in death. Coroner Kalbfleisch stated he was satisfied the fatality was purely accidental after a thorough investigation. There will be no inquest. Brother Died Recently: (image ends here)
