  Death of Mrs. M. A. Oberlander. Mrs. Matilda Augusta Oberlander, wife of Rev. A. Oberlander, died last evening at 7 o'clock, after a lingering illness caused by a cancer. The deceased has suffered with the painful disease since January and has been under the treatment of her son, Dr. Oberlander, and Drs. Van Duyn and --- as consulting physicians. The deceased was born at Grosebroltenbach, Thueringen, Germany, February 18, 1835, and came to America with what constituted the family 30 years ago. She has resided in Syracuse since 1869. She was the mother of fourteen children; ten of whom survive her. Mrs. Oberlander was well known among the Germans of the city for her kind heart and generosity to the poor. It was in her mind that the building of a German Orphan Home in this city first originated. After disclosing her idea to other charitable women a definite plan was adopted, the result of which was the building of the Tabor Orphan Home, which now stands on Gilbert's Hill in the Second ward. This institution has at present 20 inmates. The funeral will be private in accordance with her last wish and desire. It will be held on Friday morning from her late residence, No. 87½ Butternut street. All the German Lutheran pastors will be invited to officiate.
