    • Edward Fries

      The oldest civic employee from point of service when he retired in 1935, Edward Fries, age 64, 71 Gaukel Street, retired plant superintendent of the Public Utilities, died last evening at the K-W Hospital. He had 36 years of continuous service to his credit. A son of Daniel Fries and Kathrine Doerr, deceased was born in Heidelberg on Feb. 1, 1875. He was married to Susanne Lackner in Elmira on Oct. 11, 1899. Mr. Fries was a member of St. Mathew's Lutheran Church.

      Surviving are his widow, one son Oliver (Ollie), of Kitchener, two daughters, Mrs. Hal Noelke, Mertzon, Texas, Mrs. Albert Maters, Desboro, four brothers, Jacob, Joseph and Herbert, all of Kitchener, Henry of Kindersley, Sask., one sister, Mrs. William Plate of Hespeler, three grandchildren and two step-brothers, Fred Noe of Toronto, and John Noe of Lacrosse, Wis.

      A family service will be held at the residence on Saturday afternoon at 1: 30 o'clock and a public service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 2: 30 pm with interment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. J. Schmieder will officiate. Remains will be at Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home until Friday noon. Following the service for the relatives at the residence at 1: 30 pm, the remains will be at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church from 1: 45 until 2: 30.
