Notes |
- Walter H. Dumart Dead
Walter H. Dumart, founder of the Dumart packing plant of Kitchener and widely known racing enthusiast, died on Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He had been sick for five weeks.
He opened the packing plant in Kitchener, which bears his name, in 1908, and since that time he had become prominent in business circles throughout Western Ontario. He was born in Zurich on March 4, 1880, and began his business career at the age of 17 as Western Ontario traveller for a Kitchener cigar manufacturer. At that early age he laid the foundation for what was later to become a wide circle of business acquaintances in Western Ontario.
In recent years he had not been associated actively with racing associations, but previously owned a string of horses and was a familiar figure on the principal Canadian racing tracks.
Surviving are two sons, Leonard and Frederick, and three brothers, Louis William and Ezra, and a sister, Mrs. J. Bean, of Kitchener. His brother Ezra: was a former hockey player.
The funeral was held at Kitchener on Wednesday afternoon to Mount Hope Cemetery.
