    • HIGHLY ESTEEMED LISTOWEL LADY DIED Friday
      Mrs. Christian Biehn Died in Her 92nd Year. Had Resided in Listowel for 54 Years


      A highly esteemed lady, who had been a resident of Listowel for fifty-four years, passed away on Friday, May 24th, when Mrs. Christian Biehn died in her 92nd year. She suffered no specific illness but her strength gradually grew less owing to her advanced age. The late Mrs. Biehn, whose maiden name was Eva Catherine Kress was a daughter of Anthony and Eva Catherine Kress and was born in Rochester, N.Y. on January 10, 1849. When an infant she came with her parents to Canada. She resided at St. Jacobs, Elmira and Port Elgin before coming to Listowel, but for the past fifty-four years she had resided here.

      In 1867 she was married to Mr. Peter Levan who predeceased her many years ago. In 1913 she was married to Mr. Christian Biehn who predeceased her some years ago.

      During her long residence in Listowel she won the esteem of all who knew her and her death is deeply regretted by a large circle of friends. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Caroline Hall, Listowel; Mrs. Jacob Niffenegger, South Haven, Michigan, and Messrs. Albert and Percy Levan, Vancouver, B.C. Surviving also are one sister and two brothers, Mrs. John H. Ruppell, Elmira; Mr. John Kress, Port Huron, and Dr. Daniel H. Kress, Orlando, Florida.

      The funeral was held on Monday afternoon, 27th inst. The service was held in Calvary Evangelical Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. Becker, assisted by Rev. Herbert Naylor, rector of Christ Church (Anglican). During the service a duet was sung by Mrs. C. Becker and Miss V. Bender. Interment was made at Fairview Cemetery.

      The pallbearers were Messrs. John Bender, E.G. McDonald, J. Niffenegger, H. Bender, E. Biehn and J.S. Grosz. Friends and relatives from a distance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. Niffenegger, South Haven, Mich.; Mrs. S. Weir, Milverton, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Binning, Stratford and Miss Margaret Hall, Waterloo.
