- Waterloo Bedding Co. Ltd. founded November 10, 1910 by the partnership of Michael H. Montag and Alexander L. Dantzer under the name of the Quality Mattress Company. Located on one floor of a rented premise in Kitchener, the pioneer business employed three people and manufactured only felt mattresses. In 1913 the present main building was constructed at 21 Allen Street West. The business continued under the original partnership until 1921 when the Waterloo Bedding Company Limited was incorporated. Michael Montag became president and Manager, and Alfred I. Fehrenbach was named Secretary-Treasurer. Building additions … 1921 and 1925. … The firm engages twenty-five men and women …" Trade names: "Pleasant Dreams" and "Royal Button" … Emphasis has now (1982) changed to the institutional bedding (hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, motels "Now the largest single supplier of hospital mattresses in Canada."
