- Sad Death. WM. M. MCLEAN KILLED
On Wednesday morning, at about 10 o'clock, a sad accident occurred on Cedar street near Cant Bros. Co.'s foundry, resulting in the death of a boy named, Wm. M. McLean, The unfortunate lad was employed at Hespeler's sawmill as a teamster and at the time of the accident was driving a one-horse wagon, such as is used for hauling light loads of lumber. There was no load on at the time and the boy was sitting on the board. When turning the corner of Richardson and Cedar streets, he slipped off the board, which was covered with ice, striking his head on a stone, the hind wheel of the wagon also passed over his head. Col. Hespeler was the first to see the accident and on going to the lad's assistance, his skull was found to be badly fractured. He was carried into Mr. Hanneberger's house near by and medical aid summoned, but the boy was dead before the doctor arrived. He was partly conscious when picked up, but soon relapsed into unconsciousness. He was a son of Mr. John McLean, formerly foreman for Mr. Hespeler, but at present working in London. Deceased was nearly 16 years old and was a member of the Juvenile Court of A. 0. V., by whom the funeral services will be conducted. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family, who are well-known and generally respected in town.
