  • Notes
    • Mrs. Dalzell Passed Suddenly - Death claimed one of Ayr's highly-respected residents on Saturday with the sudden passing of Mrs. James A Dalzell, Northumberland St. The former Margaret Bell McKie, she was born in Burford Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McKie. The family resided in South Dumfries for a number of years before removing to Ayr where she was married 36 years ago. The late Mrs. Dalzell was a lady of deep religious convictions and took an active part in the work of Knox United Church of which she was a valued member. For many years she was a mainstay of the choir, before retiring two years ago. In church women's organizations she devoted much of her time in furthering the interests of the Women's Missionary Society and Women's Association. Other community social groups which benefitted from Mrs. Dalzell's efforts were the Ayr Women's Institute and the Ayr Women's Hospital Aid Association. She served the latter group as secretary for several terms. In the death of Mrs. Dalzell, the community loses a citizen possessed of many fine characteristics, whose kindly, pleasant manner made her scores of lifelong friends. She is the last member of her family and is survived only by her husband. Funeral service was held from her late residence on Tuesday afternoon with Rev. J. W. Currie officiating. The large attendance and profusion of floral tributes bespoke the esteem in which the late Mrs. Dalzell was held in the community. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Gordon Schram, Galt; William Rutherford, Paris; Arthur Farr, Guelph; Erskine Jardine, Galt; William House and J. D. Patterson.
