  William Purves - The death occurred very suddenly on the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day of William Purves at his boarding place, the Queens Hotel. He had been troubled with heart disease for some time, but had been at his work as usual on Saturday. He had walked up to his room on Monday afternoon, and a very few moments later was found dead in his chair by one of the boarders. Mr. Purves, who was in his 74th year, was born in Scotland, and had been a sailor for many years, acting as ship's machinist. During his life on the sea he touched at numerous out-of-the-way spots and had many tales to tell of incidents which occurred in foreign ports. He came to Ayr 16 years ago and secured employment with the John Watson Company where he worked practically ever since. He was very popular with his fellow workmen, being of a kind-hearted and genial disposition, and had a host of friends in the village, who were much shocked to learn of his passing. Deceased had no relatives in Canada. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the home of Mr. Adam Wilson, Stanley Street, to the Ayr Cemetery. The Ayr News Nov 10 1927 pg 1
