    • Dr. Walter J. Bildstein

      Dr. Walter John Bildstein of Walter Street, Ayr, passed away in the village on Tuesday, February 9th, 1993. He was 63. A native of Edmonton, he was a son of the late Rev. Alphonse Bildstein and Rosetta Schell. As a young boy he moved to Ontario and grew up near Teeswater. A lifelong scholar, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario, a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree from the Gregorian University in Rome, and a Licentiate and Doctorate in Sacret Theology from the Angelicum University in Rome, as well as Master's degree from the University of Windsor. Dr. Bildstein served as a priest in Portugal, Bermuda, Burford, Brantford and St. Francis parish in Kitchener, and taught high school at St. Jerome's in Kitchener from 1960 to 1961 and for a year in Hamilton. He left the priesthood in the early 1970's and joined the faculty of St. Jerome's College in 1972. He was chairperson of religious studies when he retired in 1988 due to ill health. He moved to Ayr a number of years ago and was among those who helped establish the Ayr Catholic Community. Loving husband and best friend of Theresa Horrigan. Dear brother of Marie and her husband Bill Zettel of Formosa and Jack and his wife Lorraine of Cambridge (P). Beloved son-in-law of Agnes Horrigan and beloved brother-in-law of Eleanor Horrigan, both of Waterloo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Rested at Westmount Funeral Chapel, Kitchener. Funeral mass was held Saturday at Blessed Sacrament RC Church. Interment Ayr Cemetery.
