Death of Alexander Hall - Prominent South Dumfries Resident Passes Suddenly - The community was shocked on Saturday morning to learn of the sudden death of Alexander Hall, South Dumfries, after an illness of only a few days, of quinsy and complications. Deceased was born on Lot 36, Concession 5, South Dumfries, and had lived in that township all his life. He was a prominent and successful farmer and was widely known for the fine quality of his live stock taking many prizes on horses and cattle in the show ring. He was an enthusiastic curler and for many years acted as skip on one of Ayr's Tankard rinks, He was also a member of the Ayr Presbyterian Church and belonged to Dolman Lodge, I. O. O. F. In politics he was a staunch Liberal. Deceased was a man of many sterling qualities and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He was married 37 years ago to Isabel McKenzie of Burford, who survives, along with one daughter, Florence, and one son, McKenzie. He is also survived by one brother, James Hall, South Dumfries. The funeral on Monday afternoon was very largely attended, friends being present from Sarnia, Burford, New York, Woodstock, St. Thomas, Paris, and other nearby points. The services were in charge of Rev. D. I. Ellison of Runnymede Presbyterian Church, Toronto, a former pastor of Stanley Street Church, Ayr, assisted by David Gowdy, student minister in charge of the Ayr Presbyterian Congregation. During the service at the residence Alfred Vincent of Woodstock sang the solo, "Abide with Me," in a touching manner. Members of Dolman Lodge, I. O. O. F., to the number of 35 or 40, attended the funeral in a body, and, at the graveside, the impressive Oddfellow service was carried out. This service was in the hands of Past Grands Wellington Nickerson and R. L. Anderson. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The pallbearers were as follows: Thomas Gillies, James Hall, John Brown, Thomas Brown, William McRuer and Jairus Maus. Rev. W. Patterson Hall, pastor of Knox's Church, Galt, was unavoidably absent.
