Notes |
- Melvin J. Robb
Melvin James Robb, an Ayr businessman and twenty year veteran of municipal politics, passed away at his home, Swan Street, on Sunday, July 30, 1995. He was in his 79th year. Born in Galt, he was a son of the late William G. Robb and Isabella White. For a time the family resided at St. George before moving to a farm at Wrigley's Corners, east of Ayr. In 1946 he and his wife Audrey, married 53 years at the time of his death, moved to their home on Swan Street in Ayr. Mel operated a truck hauling feed for Ayr Feed from 1944 to 1951. Upon selling the truck to McDonald Transport, he went to work for Ayr Feed. In 1960, he again entered business, becoming the fourth person in Ontario to put a mobile feed mill on the road. In December 1974, he was elected a member of North Dumfries Township council, as representative for the Ayr ward. He had continuously held this position, and for the present year was deputy mayor. Mel loved his community and whenever a helping hand was needed, he was there to supply it. He was a faithful supporter of the upcoming International Plowing Match and was a member of the parking committee. Husband of Audrey; father of Brian of Innerkip and Linda and her husband David Lee of Paris. Also survived by seven grandchildren; five sisters Kathrine Gautreau of Kitchener, Frances Foreman of Cambridge, Beatrice Robb of St. George, Christina Shoemaker of Elmira and Dorothy Smith of Cambridge and two brothers Fred of Woodstock and Roger of RR 2, Drumbo. Predeceased by a brother Charles. Funeral at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, on Wednesday, August 2nd. Interment Ayr Cemetery.
