    • Douglas Weston Sherk

      Douglas Weston Sherk of Bute Street, Ayr passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Tuesday, September 1st. He was in his 62nd year. Born in Blenheim Township, he was a son of the late Melvin Sherk and Mary Elizabeth Brown. A love of planes led him to get his pilot's licence and as a young man he flew for companies in Canada's North-west. Later he came back to his home town of Ayr where he joined other family members in the operation of Sherk Sales and Service, a Chrysler and Case dealership and garage. When the garage closed in 1982, Doug joined the staff at Pinder Fleet, a Kitchener truck dealership. He was a 20 year director and past president of the Waterloo-Wellington Flying Club; a director of the Ayr Centennials Jr. hockey club; and member of Canadian Pork Barbecuing organizing committee. Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis Mackie; a son Tom of Roseville; a daughter Laurel and her husband Jeff Bhagar of Toronto; brothers Raymond (Tyke), William and James, all of Ayr; sisters Mrs. William (Margaret) Makins of Bayfield, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Kostiuk of Baltimore, Md., and Esther Mitchell of Ayr. Predeceased by a twin brother David William. Rested at the Ayr Chapel of the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home where funeral service was conducted on Friday by Rev. James Young of Knox United Church, Ayr. Cremation. Interment Ayr Cemetery.
