Mrs. John A. Smith - The death occurred at the home of her son, E. C. Smith, near Glenmorris, on Thursday, Sept. 22nd, of Isabella Marshall, widow of the late John A. Smith, in her 76th year, following an illness of six months. Deceased, who was a daughter of the late Peter Marshall, one of the pioneers of this section, was born on the farm now occupied by Clifford Faus, and had always resided in South Dumfries township. After her marriage, over 50 years ago, she went to reside with her husband on the farm now occupied by her son, E. C. Smith, Glenmorris, where she remained for the balance of her lifetime, outside of a few years spent in Glenmorris. Deceased was a former member of Stanley Street Church here, but latterly had attended the Glenmorris United Church. She was a lady of many excellent qualities and was highly esteemed by numerous friends and neighbors. Surviving are one son and one daughter, her husband having predeceased her some six years ago: E. C. Smith, on the old homestead, and Mrs. Robert Guthrie, Paris Plains. The following sisters and brother also survive: Mrs. James Murray and Mrs. Robert Cochrane, south of Ayr; Mrs. T. A. Gillies, South Dumfries, and Anthony J. Marshall, Lee Cross, Sask. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Somerville, pastor of Glenmorris United Church, while the pallbearers were the following six nephews: Sherman Smith, Ernest Cochrane, Marshall Gillies, Morton Guthrie, Erie Sharp and Allan Pringle, Dunnville.
