  Death of T. A. Gillies - Ex-Reeve of South Dumfries Twp. Passes in His 74th Year The death occurred at his home in South Dumfries township on Monday morning at 6 o'clock of Thomas Alexander Gillies, ex-Reeve of the township, in his 74th year. Deceased had been confined to his bed for the past four months, having never fully recovered from the effects of a fractured hip, which he sustained last October. Mr. Gillies was born in Kitchener, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gillies, and removed to this section with the family at an early age, residing first at Little's Corners and then at Perry's Corners. He attended school at both these points. For the past 40 years, he had resided in South Dumfries, living most of that period on the farm upon which he died. Deceased took a keen interest in public and municipal affairs and served on the South Dumfries Council for many years, including two years as Reeve: He was possessed of a kindly, considerate disposition and was highly esteemed by a host of friends. He is survived by one daughter and two sons, his wife having predeceased him almost four years ago, Miss Margaret, Marshall and William, all at home. Also surviving are four brothers and one sister, viz.: A. C. Gillies, Ayr; John and William Gillies, South Dumfries; Samuel Gillies, Pittsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Sarah Hall, Ayr. The funeral took place from his late residence, lot 29, con. 6, South Dumfries, this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2.30 o'clock to the Ayr Cemetery. The Ayr News Jun 10 1937 pg 1
