- Mrs. John Gillies (nee Ellen Grant) of Walter Street, Ayr, died 12th November, 1952, at Galt General Hospital following an illness of 16 days. She was born 20th August, 1875, at Erin, Ontario, a daughter of William Grant whose birth during 1826 in eastern Ontario was of United Empire Loyalist parents. She was married on the 18th October, 1884, at St. Mary's to Charles W. Taylor, who died as the result of an accident in 1898. She was re-married 25th March, 1910, to John Gillies of South Dumfries who lived in that township until his death nine years ago. Since 1943 Mrs. Gillies had resided on Walter Street, Ayr. She is survived by one son, William A. Taylor, of London; one sister, Martha A. Wheeler, of Toronto, and the following stepdaughters and stepson: Mrs. Florence Walker, Arden, Manitoba; Mrs. S. B. Chapple, Teeswater, Ont., and J. Stanley Taylor, of Hillside Beach, Manitoba. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. D. Goodger at Knox United Church, Ayr, on Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Marshall Gillies, R.R. 3, Ayr; Wm. G. Hall, Ayr; Grant Ritchie, Ayr; Lawrence E. Gillies, Paris; Dennis Rodrigues and Croft Taylor, London.
