  • Notes
    • Sudden Death - The community was sensibly shocked on Friday evening, Aug. 15, when it became known that Mr. John McBain had passed away after only two or three hours illness. The deceased, who was in his 67th year, had been working during the early part of the afternoon, and becoming suddenly ill was taken to his lodgings, where he succumbed, as stated, to heart failure. He was of a quiet, unobtrusive disposition and made many staunch friends. Born in Beverley, he spent all his life in his native land. In religion he was a Presbyterian and in politics a Conservative, while his occupation was that of a mechanic. He had never married. Eleven years of his life were spent in Ayr, in the employ of the John Watson Mfg. Co. A beautiful floral tribute testified to the esteem in which he was held by his fellow employees. A brother and sister survive, viz., Mr. William McBain of Richmond, Virginia, and Mrs. Wm. Bickell, Ayr. The funeral took place on Sunday, when interment was made in the Ayr cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. A. G. Watson, Robert Scott, Geo. Golding, Jas. Codling, Wm. Nicoll and Ed Whitson. Rev. D. I Ellison conducted the services.
