Notes |
- Irvine J. Campbell Passes - A well-known Blenheim Township farmer, Irvine John Camp bell, 10th Concession, passed away Monday in Woodstock General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was in his 75th year. A son of the late John Campbell and Janet Laurie, he was born and lived all his life in Blenheim Township. He was a registered tree farmer and was well-known for his vast knowledge of data relating to trees. For over 50 years his spring-times were taken up with the production of maple syrup on his farm. An avid sportsman, Mr. Campbell was a long-time active member of the Ayr Curling Club and for many years a member of the Hardy Bay Hunt Club. Irvine combined his love of trees and position as Lower Tenth School trustee to promote the establishment of woodlots throughout this area. Through his efforts, and those of school students, many woodlots dot the countryside today. Always actively interested in community affairs, Mr. Campbell often was called upon to act as an election official during municipal elections. He was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Surviving besides his wife, the former Mary Riddell, is a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Catharine) Knight of RR 3, Brantford, and a son, John of Ayr. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Donald and Christine Knight and Caroline Campbell; one brother, Robert of Ayr. Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at 2: 30 p.m. from the R. W. Rumble Funeral Home, Princeton. Interment in Ayr cemetery.
