    • Elton C. Krantz Passes

A former well-known Ayr businessman, Elton Conrad Krantz died on Monday in York County Hospital, Newmarket, following a lengthy illness. He was in his 62nd year. A native of Tavistock, he came to Ayr 44 years ago to take employment in the butcher shop of William G. Ottmann. A few years later he opened up his own butcher business on Stanley St. and subsequently moved to the larger premises now occupied by Laird's Superette. Mr. Krantz expanded the enterprise into a most successful business, which he continued to operate until moving to Newmarket some years ago.

He was a prominent figure in Ayr's social and sporting circles, maintaining membership in may organizations. Mr. Krantz was one of the village's outstanding lawn bowlers, winning many awards in tournament competition. He was also a member of Ayr curling club and formerly on the Ontario Rural Softball Association executive. Mr. Krantz was for many years affiliated with Dolman Lodge, IOOF.

He was possessed of an excellent tenor voice and, with the well-known Ayr male quartet, was frequently called upon to sing at Knox United Church services and oat other functions. Mr. Krantz was the last surviving member of his family. Funeral service will be conducted at the Ayr Cemetery Chapel on Thursday at 11 am by the Rev. W.J.V. Buchanan.
