- James Bruce Passes - Was Former Councillor of N. Dumfries Township - The death occurred at the home of his sister, Mrs. Somerville, Ayr, on Friday at 1.30 a. m., of James Bruce, Black Horse Corners, aged 81 years. Deceased had been ailing for a number of days, and was removed to the home of his sister on Thursday evening where he passed away suddenly a few hours later. He was born on the 10th Concession of Blenheim, and farmed east of Roseville for a number of years. He later lived in Roseville for 6 or 7 years, and for the past 3 years had resided at the Black Horse Corners. He was a man of sterling character and was much respected by the whole community. About 15 years ago he was elected to the North Dumfries Council and was subsequently re-elected for two additional terms. In his boyhood days he was a well-known athlete, and was considered one of the best mile runners in this section, winning many races in Ayr, Galt and other places. In the annual race around Jedburgh, be was returned the winner for 4 or 5 years in succession. He was a noted student of the bible, and a devout member of Knox United Church. He is survived by one brother, William, of Ayr, and two sisters, Mrs. Somerville, Ayr, and Mrs. Crumback, Badaxe, Mich. There was a large attendance at the funeral which was held on Sunday to the Ayr Cemetery. Rev. J. W. Currie had charge of the services and the pallbearers were as follows: Messrs. William Detweiler, James Hope, Eph. Stager, Austin Schweitzer, John Myers and Alex Thomson.
