Notes |
- William Currie - Death claimed one of the district's well-known farmers on Wednesday, Feb. 26th, in the person of William Currie, Greenfield road, who died at his home, in his 58th year, following an illness of several months. During this period he underwent an operation. He was born in Ayr, a son of the late James Currie and Mary Brown, and spent nearly all his life farming in North Dumfries township. In the death of Mr. Currie, the community loses one of its most popular residents, his kindly and genial disposition having endeared him to a large circle of friends and neighbors. He attended Knox United Church, Ayr. Besides his wife, whose maiden name was Mae Scott; he is survived by six step-children: Maureen, Sally, Victoria, John, Charles and George. Two brothers, James Thomas Currie, Greenfield road, and Adam Erle Currie, Greenfield road, also survive.
The Funeral
The funeral took place from the Harold Gray Funeral Home, Galt, on Saturday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery. The service was largely attended, and the beautiful floral tributes were mute testimony of the esteem in which the late Mr. Currie was held in the community. Rev. M. B. Davidson of Central Presbyterian Church, Galt, officiated and the pallbearers were: Alvin Dryden, Robert G. Ford, Robert M. Ford, George P. Moore, Thomas Wright and William Robb.
