  Ernest Rutherford, Greenfield Native - A former well-known district resident, Ernest Rutherford of Galt died in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital on Friday in his 74th year. He was born at Greenfield, a son of the late William Rutherford and Mary Ellen McSwain. His father was the foreman cooper at the former Goldie's Flour Mill at Greenfield. The late Mr. Rutherford received his early education at Greenfield school and later worked among district farmers for some years. He moved to Galt about 45 years ago and for the past 40 years had been yard foreman at P. W. Gardiner & Son Ltd. While in Greenfield he attended Knox Church here. He was a member of Alma Lodge, AF and AM, Galt. He was the last surviving member of the family, being predeceased by sisters Elizabeth and Nettie and brothers George, William, Harold and James. Funeral service was held at Little's Funeral Home, Galt, on Tuesday with interment in Ayr Cemetery. A Masonic service was conducted at the funeral home on Monday. The Ayr News Jul 9 1959 pg 2
