Notes |
- Robert E. Stewart - The death occurred at Galt Hospital early Thursday morning of Robert Erskine Stewart, a highly esteemed resident of Ayr, in his 73rd year. Mr. Stewart had been in declining health for some time and became seriously ill some four weeks ago. He was taken to the hospital for treatment on Wednesday afternoon, but passed away some hours later. He was born at Paris and came to Ayr when but eight years old. His boyhood days were spent here, after which he went to Galt where he served his apprenticeship as a machinist with the Goldie & McCulloch Co. After a residence in Galt of five or six years he went to Chicago where he was married. He later returned to Galt, going from there to Toronto. Some years later he went to Ottawa, where he was department superintendent with the Eddy Co. for 35 years. Some two years ago he retired to Ayr, where his wife predeceased him seven months ago. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Doric Lodge, A. F. & A. M., Ottawa. Of a quiet, reserved disposition, he was highly esteemed by all those who knew him well. He is survived by one sister and a brother, Mrs. E. S. McHutchion and Peter Stewart, both of Ayr. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery. Rev. Patterson Hall conducted the services, while the pallbearers were: George Bird, Adam Douglas, William Leithead, J. J. Brown, J. A. Manson and M. M. Robson.
