    • Passing of Mrs. (Rev.) Carswell - A Great Church Worker Succumbs Practically in Harness

An esteemed native of, Ayr in the person of Mrs. (Rev.) David Carswell of McKillop passed away suddenly late Friday night at her home near Seaforth, aged 51 years. She was a great worker in the church and had presided at a meeting of ladies that afternoon, when she was stricken with apoplexy, thus practically dieing in the harness. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. Wm. Patterson of Ayr. She was born and married here, the later event taking place on Oct. 24, 1894. Her husband is a native of Glenmorris, where his relatives still reside. Mr. Carswell has been pastor of the Presbyterian Church in McKillop for about 15 years, during which time the deceased by her devotion and personal worth in every good work gained the esteem of the entire community and wielded a far reaching influence. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters: Jean, a teacher, and Helen, a second-year undergraduate of the University of Toronto, and one son, Gordon; also her father, Mr. Patterson, two sisters and two brothers, viz., Mrs. A. Dudman of Savanah, Georgia, Mrs. John Alan, Galt, Robt. G. Patterson, London, and Wm. T. Patterson, Winnipeg. The funeral service in McKillop on Monday was very largely attended, including about a dozen ministers. Among the latter were Revs. G. Hamilton, T. H. Brown, J.S. Hogg, S. McLean, D. Johnston, R.A. Lawdy, H. Moyer, G. Telfold, W.D. McIntosh and Robt. Ross. Rev. Dr. Larkin of Seaforth had charge of the service. Interment was made at Ayr on Monday afternoon, where the service was conducted by Rev. Dr. Thomson. The pallbearers here were Messrs. Jas. G. Fair, A.G. Watson, J.W. Henderson, Ed. Whitson, J.C. Kyle and John Allan (Galt). Among the friends from a distance who attended the last sad rites were the following: Mr. and Mrs. John Carswell and the Misses Elizabeth, Mary and Kate Carswell of Glenmorris; Mr. and Mrs. John Murray and Mr. and Mrs. John Allan of Galt; Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Patterson and son Cameron of London. Two elders of Carswell's church, Messrs. Carbill and Scarlett, accompanied himself and family.
