  • Notes
    • William T. Edgar, Outstanding Farmer

An eminently successful farmer and a member of one of the district's early families, William T. Edgar passed away at his home, Bute St., Ayr, on Wednesday. lie had been in ill health for a lengthy period. He was born on the family homestead on the Blenheim Townline, which has always been known in this community as 'The Hill Farm'. His parents, both from prominent. district families were the late William Edgar and Catherine Deans. Mr. Edgar lived out his industrious years on these ancestral acres until retiring into Ayr eight years ago. It was a matter of pride with him that the farm had been in the family for over a century, and this tradition is being furthered by his son Cameron, who now operates the farm. The late Mr. Edgar built for him-self a reputation as one of the out-standing district farmers, and this fact was reflected in the neat appearance of the premises and well kept buildings. A deeply religious man, Mr. Edgar was a valued member of Knox United Church, where he served on the Board of Managers and as a Trustee. His keen business sense made his services in these capacities extremely valuable, and although hampered by failing eye-sight in later years he retained a continued interest in the church. He was a director of the former Ayr Rural Telephone Company, and, until ill health forced his retirement, he was also a director of the Ayr Cemetery Company. Surviving besides his wife, the former Jeannie Laurie, are two daughters and a son: Mrs. John MacLellan (Kathryn) of Windsor, Mrs. Lorne Curnoe (Mary) of Toronto. and Cameron, on the farm. There are several grandchildren. Resting at his late residence, where services will he held on Saturday, May 26, at 2 p m., conducted by Rev. R. D. Thompson Interment will be made in Ayr Cemetery.
