A well-known part-time resident of Ayr Leslie C. Elms, 73, died Sunday night at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He had been seriously ill some time ago and had since been in indifferent health. Born in London, Ont., he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Elms. In his younger years he was employed as an operator with the CPR in Ayr and other nearby centres. Subsequently he moved to Detroit where he was a claims investigator with the Grand Trunk Railway for 35 years. He retired to Courtright in 1958. He was a member of Friendship Lodge, A.F. & Detroit. For the past few years Mr. and Mrs. Elms had been spending their winters here with her sister, Mrs. L. C. Vincent. Mr., Elms was a familiar figure in the downtown area, where he frequently dropped by to chat with business people, including the News staff. His humorous approach to the subjects under discussion will be sadly missed by his friends here. Surviving are his wife, the former Hilda Ball of Ayr, and a brother Percy of Tompkins, Sask. Resting at the W. O. Ball Funeral Home, where service will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m., with interment in Ayr Cemetery Chapel.
