  Died In Ayr, on Thursday, July 29th, 1926, at 4 o'clock p.m. Ellen Murray Widow of the late George McCartney in her 83rd year. The Funeral Will take place from her late residence, Scott Street, on Saturday, July 31st, at 3 p.m., to the Ayr Cemetery. Friends and acquaintances will please accept this intimation. Waterloo Historical Society Death Notices Collection - photocopies ____________ Death Mr. McCartney - The death occurred in Ayr on Thursday afternoon of Ellen Murray, widow of the late George McCartney, after a lingering illness, in her 83rd year. Deceased was born in Wilmot Township, and was united in marriage to her late husband some 25 years ago. After residing in North Dumfries Township for several years they took up residence in Ayr, where Mr. McCartney died some 14 years ago. Mrs. McCartney was a member of Knox United Church and was beloved by a wide circle of friends. Besides 4 sisters and 2 brothers, she is survived by one stepson, Hugh McCartney of Bright, and one stepdaughter, Miss Janet McCartney of Ayr. The funeral took place to the Ayr cemetery on Saturday afternoon, with many friends and relatives in attendance. The services were in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie, and the pallbearers were as follows: Messrs. Robt. Morton, Robt. Patterson, Jos. Appleyard, Ben. Wootsey, S. Marshall and And. L. Easton. The Ayr News Aug 5 1926 pg 1
