Notes |
- Passing of Jane McCartney
Another old resident in the person of Jane McCartney passed to her long home on Monday evening, in her 86th year. The deceased had been ailing for a considerable time and her demise was not unexpected. She was born in the Parish of Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland, and came to America 60? years ago, taking up residence in North Dumfries, where she continued to reside until coming to Ayr about the year 1881. She never married, but resided with a brother and sister, each of whom also remained single. In religion she was a Presbyterian, and a consistent member of Knox Church. Of a family of eight brothers and sisters only two survive - John and George, both residents of this village. The funeral, which took place yesterday afternoon, attested the esteem in which the deceased was held by a wide circle of friends. Interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. John Thomson, assisted by rev. D. I. Ellison.
