- Harold L. Charles Passes
One of Ayr's most popular residents, Harold Leslie Charles passed away in Westminster Hospital, London, on Sunday following a lengthy illness. He was in his 73rd year. He was born in Burford, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Charles. He subsequently resided in Elora, Guelph and Windsor before coming to Ayr 30 years ago. Mr. Charles was a herdsman and livery man and always retained his fondness for horses. For some years he was mail courier on Rural Route 2, Ayr. He was a veteran of World War serving overseas with the 912st Batt. of St. Thomas, and was the victim of gas which afflicted him the rest of his life. He was a member of the former Ayr Legion. Mr. Charles was always interested in municipal government and served on Ayr council for several terms. He was a member of Knox United Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clair Harmer (June) of Plattsville and Mrs. Griffith Lloyd (Anna) of WillowdaIe. Four grandsons also survive. His wife, the former Edna Irene Stevenson, predeceased him in 1960. The funeral was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Home, Swan St., this (Wednesday) afternoon, with interment in Ayr Cemetery.
