    • Mrs. J. Morton Guthrie Passes

      The death occurred in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Friday, April 26, of Mrs. J. Morton Guthrie, Ayr, in her 79th year. Mrs. Guthrie, the former Olive Bell Marshall, was born in South Dumfries Township, a daughter of the late Peter Marshall and Sarah Jane Gillies. Following her marriage to Mr. Guthrie 48 years ago, the couple farmed on the Guthrie Homestead, now occupied by Wm. Kinnaird, on the Townline, RR 3, Ayr. They subsequently moved to Ayr some 22 years ago, where they purchased the former John W. Watson home where they lived at the time of Mrs. Guthrie's death. Mrs. Guthrie contributed much to the social life of the community and was a great asset to the organizations to which she belonged. She was a life member of Knox United Church UCW, a charter member of the Ayr Women's Institute as well as curator of the Tweedsmuir History. She was a member of Knox United Church. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. James (Elizabeth) Perrin, RR 3, Bright; two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Hill (Martha), Welland, and Mrs. J. M. Witt, Jr. (Daisie) of Yonkers, N.Y.; also six grandchildren. Two brothers, Alvin Marshall, Toronto, and Wm. G. Hall, Ayr, predeceased her. - The Funeral - The funeral was held from the Coutts & Son Funeral Home, Galt, on Monday, April 29. The service was conducted by Rev. D. E. Willis, Ayr. The pallbearers were: Robert Stewart, Toronto; Thomas and John Hall, Alden Cochrane, Cameron Edgar, Ayr, and Allan Edgar, Paris. Flower bearers were: John Edgar and John W. Currie of Paris, Ernest Cochrane, Erie Sharp, Earle Smith and Marshall Gillies of Ayr. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery.
