Notes |
- Passing Of Prominent Mason - Sudden Demise of Alexander Falconer - The community was startled on Sunday evening when it became known that Mr. Alexander Falconer had passed away at the Hamilton Hospital after undergoing two operations for goiter within a few days of each other, the last on Saturday, death following at 5: 45 p.m. on Sunday. Mr. Falconer had gone down the early part of the week and had put himself in the hands of an expert, who performed the first operation on Wednesday. Both were successful but the patient was unable to rally from the severe shock to his system. Deceased was native of Pickering, where he was in business for some time as a harness maker. Later he went to Toronto, and from there came to Ayr about 18 years ago, purchasing the harness business of Mr. James McGhee, now of Toronto. This he ran successfully until about a year ago when he sold out to the present owner, Mr. Alex. Runstetler. Mr. Falconer was a shrewd business man, a god mechanic and very popular with his patrons, all of whom and the public generally will sincerely regret his early demise, just when he was prepared to take life easy. He was a prominent Mason, being a past master when he came here; he was subsequently elected master of the local lodge for a term and fulfilled his duties most creditably. For some years he was a member of the Public Library Board and also of Knox United Church. A son, Mr. Clarence Falconer of Toronto, survives, Mrs. Falconer having passed away shortly after the family came to Ayr. The funeral, which took place yesterday (Wednesday) from the residence of Mr. Chisholm Scott, Stanley Street, to the Ayr Cemetery, was under Masonic auspices, local members of the Order acting as pallbearers, as follows: Jno. Q. Reid, J.W. Henderson, Jas. G. Fair, D. Reid, W.A. Ramsay, A.R. Robertson.
