Notes |
- Wm. T. Thomson of Washington Passes
William T. Thomson, aged 82, one of Washington's oldest citizens, passed away at Elmira Private Hospital on Saturday following a brief illness. With the exception of a few years in the West, he had spent his entire life in the community where he was noted as a skilled carpenter.
He was born on the Thomson homestead, now owned by Perry Thomson, a son of the late Alexander Thomson and Elizabeth Waugh. As a young man he became a member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., Ayr, and was one of the very few to have attained over 50 years' membership. Mr. Thomson attended the Washington United Church.
Surviving is one brother, J. J. Thomson, of Plattsville. His wife the former Ida May Gammon predeceased him in March.
Oddfellows' Service
On Sunday evening, the Oddfellows' funeral rites were held at the home of his nephew, Perry Thomson, attended by ten members of Dolman Lodge. Conducting the service were Chaplain James D. Patterson, Noble Grand George E. Gillespie and Secretary Alvin Page.
The Funeral
The funeral service was held from the Perry Thomson residence on Monday, with Rev. Gordon Kaiser officiating. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank Thomson and George Thomson of Washington; Win. Guthrie, New Dundee; John Harmer, Galt; Reg. Archer, Kitchener, and Cameron Johnson, Galt.
