Well-Known Blacksmith Passes After Lengthy Illness---Aged Sixty -Four Years
A well-known resident of Ayr passed away at his residence on Northumberland Street on Saturday night, in the person of James J. Upfold, aged 64 years. Mr. Upfold sustained a stroke two years ago, since which time he has been in indifferent health.
He was born in Putnam and came to Ayr 32 years ago where he had since carried on a blacksmith business.
In politics he was a Liberal and in religion an Anglican. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and was a former member of the Ayr Municipal Council.
Mr. Upfold was known as a good blacksmith and was esteemed by a wide circle of friends.
Surviving are: his wife, whose maiden name was Jean McLeod; one son, James, of Woodstock; two daughters, Kathryn, of Norwich and Reta, at home; also two sisters, Mrs. C. R. Eden and Mrs. A. Steele, London. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery. There was a private service at the residence at 2.00 o'clock, followed by a public service at Christ Church at 2.30 o'clock.
