    • Mrs. Upfold Passes Suddenly

Dies From Heart Attack at Her Home Here On Monday Night

The community was shocked, to learn of the sudden passing from a heart attack at 11.45 Monday night of Mrs. Jean Upfold, widow of the late James J. Upfold, in her 41st year. Mrs. Upfold was in the front room of her house on Northumberland street listening to the radio when she was stricken. A boarder, Gordon Roy, was in the kitchen at the time and heard her gasping for breath and on seeing her condition immediately called a doctor. She passed away before the doctor arrived.

Mrs. Upfold had not been in the best of health lately, but was on the street a few hours before and appeared well. She was of a bright jolly disposition and few knew that her health had been poor of late.

She was born at Woodstock, where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. McLeod, still reside, and she had lived in Ayr for about 28 years. She was a member of Christ Church and took an active interest in all community affairs. Her husband, James Upfold, who ran a blacksmith shop here, predeceased her a year ago.

Besides the parents, deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. A. Arn of Norwich; a brother, Norman of Woodstock and another brother in the United States. The three children left are: Reta, 10, at home: James of Woodstock and Kathryn of Norwich.

A private funeral service will be held at the residence of her sister, Mrs. A. B. Arn, Norwich, on Thursday, October 23rd, at 1.30 p.m., followed by a public service at her late residence, Northumberland Street, Ayr, at 3.00 p. m. Interment will be in Ayr Cemetery.

      Funeral of Mrs. Gammon

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gammon attended the funeral on Friday of their daughter-in-law, the late G. C. Gammon of London, whose sudden death occurred the Tuesday previous.
