    • Ayr Youth Dies Following Go-Cart Accident

Ayr residents were saddened to learn of the tragic death of Paul Graham Lightowlers, 20, of Piper Street. He died in K-W hospital on Monday, from injuries sustained in a go-cart accident southeast of Ayr on Friday evening. The youth was driving the vehicle west on North Dumfries township Road 5E (near Glen Morris Road), three-tenths of a mile east of Highway 24A. While going over a hill, it went out of control, throwing him out. George Rutherford, a passenger in the vehicle, was also thrown out but was not injured. The go-cart, owned by Werner Stierel of RR 3, Ayr, was a 1961 Volkswagen which had had the body cut off and various modifications done to it. It was made for a race track and not for use on roads. The OPP are investigating. Born in England, Paul Lightowlers had resided in Ayr with his parents for the past 17 years. At the time of his death, he was an employee of Ayr Welding. He attended Knox United Church and was an ardent member of the Ayr Lawn Bowling Club. He was a graduate of Ayr Public School and Southwood Secondary School, Galt. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lightowlers, Ayr; a brother, Jason, at home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Lightowlers, Galt, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lavidia Fenwick of England. The funeral was held today (Wednesday) from Little's Funeral Home, Galt. Rev. D. E. Willis officiated. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.
