Prominent architect of Belleville, John Arnold Thomson died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. Alfred Elliott, 114 Glenvale Blvd., Leaside. He was in his 74th year. Mr. Thomson went to Toronto on business some two weeks ago. Stricken as he left the train, he collapsed in the Union Station. He was a brother of Major George M. Mr. Thomson was for some years chief draughtsman with the Public Works Department, Dominion Government, Ottawa.
A native of Ayr, he was a son of the late Rev. Dr. John Thomson who served for 40 years as minister of Knox Presbyterian Church. He had been a resident of Belleville since 1924 and had designed a number of important buildings, including Belleville Collegiate and Vocational School and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Recently he was working on the plans for the new Hastings County Home for the Aged. He was a member of Moira Lodge, AF & AM, Belleville, and life member of Civil Service Lodge, AF & AM, Ottawa.
He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor Fetherstonhaugh; three daughters: Mrs. Elliott, Toronto; Mrs. Cecil D. wight, Ottawa; and Mrs. Oliver Smith, Braeside, and two brothers, Pierre C. and W. Raymond Thomson, both of Toronto.
Following service in Toronto on Sunday afternoon, interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery on Monday after the arrival of the morning train from Toronto.
