      Rev. Richard Davidson. Ph.D., D.D., Was Native of This Community
      Suffering a heart seizure, Rev, Richard Davidson, Ph.D., D.D., principal emeritus, Emmanuel College, and president of the Toronto Conference, United Church of Canada, died Thursday morning at his home, 120 Madison avenue, Toronto. Apparently in his usual health Wednesday. Dr. Davidson engaged in preparations for the conference which opened Monday, May 29.

      Retiring a year ago as principal of Emmanuel College, he had assumed work in the Old Testament Department of Victoria College.

      Dr. Davidson was born in Blenheim township, near Ayr, 68 years ago. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto and Knox College; took postgraduate work in Toronto and Berlin, and taught on the staffs of Trinity College, Montreal Presbyterian College, University College and Knox College. At the time of Church Union in 1925, he was appointed to the staff of Emanuel College, Victoria University. He became principal 12 years ago.

      He was prominent in ecumenical circles and at the time of his death was president of the North American section of the Ecumenical Council. He received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Montreal Theological College and Queen's University. A member of Westminster Central United Church. he was recently moderator of the congregation.

      Surviving are his widow, Edith Mary Northwood Davidson; two sons, Flt. Lieut. Rev. Richard Davidson, chaplain in the R.C.A.F., and FR. Lieut. Craig Davidson, R.CA.F., Headquarters Staff, Ottawa; two daughters, Mrs. Wesley Flinn and Mrs. William Omand, both of Toronto. Two brothers, John Lilllco Davidson, Bright, and Henry Rufus Davidson, Ayr, and a sister. Janet Craig Davidson, Toronto, also survive.

      The Funeral

      The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, with interment in Ayr Cemetery. Following a service held in Westminster-Central Church. Toronto. at 2 o'clock, the cortege proceeded to Ayr. A service was held at the graveside at 5 o'clock. in charge of Chancellor W. T. Brown of Victoria University, Toronto, assisted by Rev. J. W. Currie and Rev. R. A. Steed of Knox United Church, Ayr. The pallbearers were three nephews, Richard Davidson, Richard Barrie, Walter IL Barrie, and J. W. Lillico, Walter A. Barrie and Richard Baxter.
