Notes |
- Passing of Henry Scott
Henry Scott, William street, Ayr, passed away on Saturday morning, aged 78 years. He had been ill for many months, but his death came suddenly.
Mr. Scott was the last surviving member of one of Ayr's oldest families. The Scotts came to Ayr about one century ago and the members of the family were noted for their longevity.
In the course of some 14 months, two other members of the family have passed away - Christena, aged 97, in July, 1950, and William, aged 91, in February, 1951.
Mr. Scott was born in the home, on William street, where he passed away and was always employed in Ayr or vicinity. For many years, prior to his illness, he was employed in the plant of the John Watson Company.
Until recent years Mr. Scott was a valued member of both the Ayr Curling Club and the Ayr Bowling Club. He was also an enthusiastic hockey and softball fan, and attended the more important softball games until a week before his passing.
And so passes from the every-day life of the community the name of a family which has been a household word here for a longer period than can be remembered by any living person. Mr. Scott was unmarried.
The Funeral
The funeral took place on Monday afternoon from the W. 0, Ball Funeral Parlor to the Ayr Cemetery. The service was in charge of Rev. W. D. Goodger. Pallbearers were: John Ennis, Wm. Watkins, James Swan, Wm. Irwin, G. S. Dalrymple and Arthur Underwood.
