    • Mrs. James E. Whitson Passes

      Mrs. James Edward (Betsy Bell) Whitson, 83, died Wednesday, May 4 1960, at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital after a long illness. Born in Ayr, she was the daughter of the late Adam Wilson and Betsy Davidson. A lifelong resident of the village, she was a member of the former Stanley St. Presbyterian Church and in later years of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Galt. She took part in many of the village activities. For many years she taught Sunday School and was the teacher of the Blue Bell Class which participated in both hockey and ball leagues in the early '20's.


      She was a member of the executive of the Guelph Presbyterial of the Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of the former Ayr Women's Hospital Aid Society and for a number of years was on the executive of the Waterloo Historical Society. Mr. Whitson predeceased her in April, 1949. Surviving are three nieces and one nephew, Isabel W. Minty, Kitchener; Bessie D. Gemmell Toronto; Margaret S. Gemmell, Milton, and Dr. James G. Gemmel, Los Vegas, Nevada. - The Funeral - The funeral service which was held at her late residence on Saturday at 4 p.m., was conducted by the Rev. D. Farris of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Galt, and the Very Rev. Finlay Gordon Stewart, D.D., of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Kitchener. The pallbearers were: Norman Zinn, Galt; Stuart Strachan, Paris; Morton Guthrie, Thomas Robson, Charles Bain and Howard Reid of Ayr. Interment took place at the Ayr Cemetery.

      May 6. Mrs. James E. (Betsy) Whitson, 83, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Wilson, was a lifelong resident of the village of Ayr. She was executive member of the Guelph Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, charter member of the Ayr Women's Hospital Aid Society and a valued member of the council of the Waterloo Historical Society for many years.
