      David Lorne Penlington passed away peacefully in his home, Scott Street, Ayr, on Wednesday, January 28, 2004.

      Dave leaves behind his loving wife Janice Penlington; son Peter and his wife Sharon Penlington of Kitchener, Greg (Ping) Penlington of Cambridge; daughters Arlene Thomas of Ayr and Barb McQuarrie of Orangeville; step-children Audrey Batters and husband Ted of Kitchener, David McDonald and partner Sherry Stewart of Kitchener, Tammy Patenaude and husband Gilles of Winnipeg and Carla McDonald and Partner Bob Moorehouse of Winnipeg. Dave also leaves behind brother Howard and his wife Shirley Penlington of Kingston, Dave was a loving and devoted grandfather to all of his 18 grandchildren, Rebecca Howard and husband Rob, David Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Ruth Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, Maegan McQuarrie, barn McQuarrie, Brittany McQuarrie, Sean Penlington, Joel Batters, Shavne Batters, Melissa Moorley, Joshua McDonald-Moorley, Cody Stewart , Corey Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Shannon Patenaude, Kristen Patenaude.

      Dave's favourite activity was to attend all his grandchildren's: sporting events and made sure that he never missed a game. Born and raised at his home in Galt, Ont. on July 31, 1933. He started his working career delivering telegraph messages on a bicycle After driving taxi for many years he became owner/operator of South Waterloo Ambulance Service in Galt before it was taken over by the province Moving to Ayr in 1971, Dave became the owner of Pen-Ayr Coach Lines and sold it in 1993 He was Fire Chief of Ayr from 1992-1999 He was affectionately known to many as "Pen-Ayr", "The Chief" and "Papa Penn" Well known for his enormous amount of volunteer work, he taught at the Waterloo Regional Police Children's Safety Village. He also worked with A.C.T. and the Waterloo Regional Police Male Chorus. He had a passion for helping people. He will he sadly missed by his family and the many people whose lives and hearts this great man touched. Rested at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 2: 00 p.m. at the Knox United Church, Northumberland St., Ayr.
